Attendance
Students are expected to attend class during
regular class times. A schedule of classes and class times will
be sent according to the grade level of the student. It is recommended
that this schedule be followed, since maximum benefit can be received
using this structure. A student is present when 3 core assignments
are submitted by 2:00 p.m. (Bible, English, Reading, Mathematics,
Social Studies, or Science are considered “core subjects”)
Remaining assignments need to be submitted before 8 A.M. of the
following day. This gives time for students to use after-school
hours, if necessary, for finishing assignments already begun during
class time but not completed.
In the case of Friday classes or classes the last day before vacations,
assignments must be submitted at least by 8 A.M. the following school
day, unless the student is notified regarding special deadlines for
designated assignments.
In the case of specific individual student needs,
parents, in consultation with the teacher, may make written requests
for time extensions or special arrangements, providing notification
of need from the student’s
physician in the case of exceptions for medical necessity.
Absences
Parents are to e-mail or phone teachers if the student will not
be working during school hours on a particular day. Excused absences:
Sickness, medical appointments, field trips to music clinics, art
clinics, etc. Be sure to prearrange all absences with teachers when
possible.
Weather Emergencies
If a student is working in a school setting, the student should
be mindful of weather reports (especially in winter), making sure
to take books home when there is a chance of severe weather or snow.
CCAVS has no snow days.
Computer Problems
If the student is having computer problems on any given day, the
teachers need to be notified by phone. If a daily assignment has
not been received from a teacher, be sure to phone or IM the teacher
before class. In case of an e-mail address change, please notify
all teachers.
Testing
CCAVS will administer standardized achievement testing where possible.
Parents will be notified in early September regarding arrangements
and the procedure to follow.
Grade Reports
A report from each teacher will be sent to the parents at each mid-quarter
point. A progress report will be issued at the end of each quarter.
Parents should acknowledge receipt of these reports by notifying
each teacher by e-mail or phone.
Field Trips
Students working at home are encouraged to take field trips to appropriate
sites with parents. Students doing their work in a school setting
are encouraged to participate in the field trips planned by their
individual site. Be sure to notify teachers prior to any absences.
Arrangements for assignments to be completed, which were assigned
for that day, will be made individually. We encourage students in
every conference to participate in various activities offered by
their conference. These might include such programs as Pathfinder
activities, science fairs, music clinics, outdoor schools, and art
clinics.
Academic Integrity
CCAVS trusts each student and parent to maintain
high standards of honesty and ethical behavior. All assignments
submitted in fulfillment of course requirements must be the student’s own work. If any
words or ideas are used in assignments that do not represent the
student’s original words or ideas, the student must cite all
relevant sources. Words or ideas that require citations include,
but are not limited to, all hardcopy and all electronic publications,
whether copyrighted or not, and all verbal and visual communications
clearly originated from an identifiable source.
Plagiarism
"Plagiarism is taking writings and ideas of another and making
them your own without giving credit. This will not be tolerated
at CCAVS. If you plagiarize (copy) any information from a book
or the Internet without citing the reference(s), you will receive
an F for the assignment and have to redo the assignment for a top
possible grade of C. All papers must be written in your own
words. It is not enough to just rewrite someone else's sentences. The
best thing to do is to read your information, jot down key words,
close the reference, and write about what you read. Cutting
and Pasting without citing reference is a form of plagiarism. If
you have been instructed by your teacher NOT to use outside helps
including Internet sites and you do, this is also considered plagiarism.
Three plagiarized papers may result in your
being expelled from the class and/or CCAVS."
Academic Requirements
Each student will meet requirements of the Southern
New England Conference and the Atlantic Union Conference if all
assignments are submitted in a satisfactory manner and a satisfactory
grade is received. A grade of “I” (Incomplete) will
be given for legitimate reasons such as an illness or other emergency;
however, all incompletes must be removed within three weeks following
the grading period.
Scholarship Funding
Many local churches and conferences have scholarship
funding available to assist family members with the education of
their children. We strongly encourage you to inquire regarding
this possibility, and we will be available to respond to any church
inquiries regarding our school. The Southern New England Conference
does offer the SET fund for high school students in this program.
Graduation
An eighth grade graduation ceremony is held at the end of the school
year in the Three Angels S.D.A. Church. All students who live close
enough to drive to the church are encouraged to participate. For
those students living at a great distance, The school board will
work with parents to help set up a program in their home church if
this is desired. Students must complete all requirements as set by
the Atlantic Union Conference Educational Code book in order to receive
a diploma.
Assignment Procedures
Students will need their own e-mail accounts separate from parent
accounts.
Each day the student will access the personal
e-mail account and print off the day’s assignments from the
teachers by the designated class time. Teachers may send assignments
by the day or for the week.
Place the assignments received from each teacher in a 3-ring binder
dedicated to assignments given by that teacher. These assignments
should never leave the binder until it has been determined that all
assignments for the quarter have been completed. Students can devise
their own system for making notations on the assignment sheet to
indicate completion and submission of each assignment. It is recommended
that parents assist in this organization process.
All assignments are evaluated and returned to students via e-mail.
Each teacher will require specific procedures for each class. These
will be sent to students individually at the onset of school.
Teacher Responsibilities
Post assignments to students and parents, providing all information
necessary for the completion of assignments.
Respond to all student and parent e-mails in a timely manner.
Assist students in understanding lessons.
Provide weekly lists of any missing work.
Provide mid-quarter and quarterly grade reports.
Hosting classroom sessions at least twice a week per class
